For the chronically curious

The man and his Monaco

Introduced in 1969, the Heuer Monaco became a motorsport icon after Steve McQueen wore one in the 1971 film Le Mans.

Square case. Racing pedigree. Catch him on the right day and Neil will have one on his wrist.

Houston, we have a chronograph

During Apollo 13, astronaut Jack Swigert used his Omega Speedmaster to time a critical 14-second manual engine burn after an oxygen tank explosion forced the crew to abandon the Command Module. The burn succeeded, and the craft splashed down safely in the South Pacific.

1.96 leagues under the sea

In 1960, a Rolex Deep Sea Special accompanied oceanographer Jacques Piccard and US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh to the bottom of the Mariana Trench—strapped to the outside of their bathyscaphe.

10,916 meters deep, and the watch survived to tick another day.
